Linear Speed (Running Speed)

is the capacity to produce rapid movement—measured by how quickly an athlete can accelerate, reach maximum velocity, and/or repeat or maintain fast actions for the demands of the sport.

Explosive and Speed

When explosiveness improves, the same sprint distance usually feels like you “jump off the ground harder” and hit speed earlier, rather than slowly speeding up.

Fast-Twitch Muscles

Fast-twitch muscles make you better at short, hard efforts—which is exactly what sprinting and acceleration require to run faster.

What ATZ Focus On

· Sprint posture & setup (lean, head position, shin angle at the start)

· Acceleration mechanics (powerful first steps, knee drive, forceful ground contact)

· Max-velocity mechanics (tall posture, relaxed speed, efficient stride pattern)

· Transition work (moving from acceleration into top speed smoothly)

· Frequency & stride length control ((finding the best blend for each athlete)

· Ground contact efficiency (shorter, “quicker” contacts without rushing form)

· Leg stiffness & elastic reactivity ((tension into the ground and rebound out)

· Arm action (driving arms for rhythm and balance, not crossing the body)

· Foot strike & support alignment (landing under the body, stable hips/knees)

· Change-of-direction (COD) technique(plant position, hips loaded, balance through the cut)

· Reactive agility (start cues, visual/audio stimuli, “respond not rehearse”)

· Deceleration mechanics (braking control, lowering center of mass, maintaining posture)

· Re-acceleration out of cuts (get back to speed quickly after COD)

· Lateral speed (side-to-side movement quality with minimal wasted motion)
